Helpful Guide to Voting in Michiana.

While most of us go into the voting booth already knowing who we are going to vote for, because let's face it, we are, mostly, all tools of party politics.  You are either a democrat(asshole) or a republican(asshole), despite whether or not you identify yourself as such.

The Grogcast guys!

Last week Robert Black and Al (or whatever) made their first grogcast for Des Moines public access.  I cost 30$ for an hour spot but gosh darnit it was worth it!  They discuss Columbus Day, new tween favorite: butt-chugging, and Paul Ryans gay sex tape.  Congratulations guys, you continue to be Des Moines favorite grog, whatever that means.

Nappanee Apple Festival 2012!

Appatitty the Apple!

Last weekend Nappanee Indiana celebrated its 112th Apple Festival.  The festival celebrates the apple by serving various apple related stuff.  I noticed that most of the youth there were of the juggalo variety, also their were little to no black folk around, I believe there is a correlation.  Lets do a study guys...

JB's Corner Episode 6: Origin of "The Fighting Irish"

This weeks episode of JB's corner features special guest host Jason, local civil rights activist super star! I for one can not stand Notre Dame since I have to live here and Notre Dame students typically look down upon us local "plebs" as they like to call us.  To be fair, I am sure not all Notre Dame students are total dick-holes, just most of them.   :)    Video after the jump.

JB's Corner Episode 5: Tea Party Billboard

Please excuse my unexplained 2 month absence, I have been out of the country on a secret assignment (i.e hiding in a closet in the basement).  So how about that billboard in Elkhart eh?  Disgusting as the sign is, it was not the tea parties first choice...

Right To Work in Indiana

June 2, 2012
Somehow a forum was organized to discuss the recent passing of the Right To Work bill (or whatever) in Indiana.  Much like the Clean Air Act and Healthy Forest Act, one would think that giving people the right to work is a good thing, but alas, these names are nothing but treacherous lies meant to deceive the hearts of the disinterested masses.   As explained by these guys....     wish i brought a tripod

Grog baby, just because

I made this video for my wife, but since my two videos from the Right To Work forum two weeks ago are going to take six hours to upload i will just throw this at you.

You're welcome!

Grog @ Outback Steakhouse

For my wife's birthday I let her take me to her favorite restaurant, Outback Steakhouse, home of authentic Australian cuisine like their famous Victoria Filet, which is a filet cooked in a special fashion that is very popular in the Australian state of Victoria, where they are famous for their filets.

I have never been to Australia and I know very little about it.  I think it was originally "discovered" by a Dutchman during Hollands golden age (Mid 16th century to late 17th century (yeah, the Dutch had a golden age)) and it was pretty much left alone by the Europeans until the early 19th century.

The English had acquired Australia sometime in the 18th century but it was not until their loss of the 13 North American colonies that the English really started to pay attention and develop Australia (also, as we all know, the island was being used as a penal colony).

Well that is my 2nd grade history lesson on Australia, the stuff everyone knows.  But did you know that there were humans inhabiting Australia before the white man came?  These peoples were called aborigines, or at least that is what the white man calls them, aborigines is just a word that denotes people as "original inhabitants" of a certain geographic area.  I am sure these aborigines have real names, but white cares not to know them ;(.

The Australian Country Fried Mushrooms are my favoritetest country fried mushrooms!!!!     Jump it

Occupy The Arts

A few weeks the sleeping giant that is Occupy South Bend (or as i like to call them, The OccuPals) awoke from their deep winter sleep with an event called "Occupy The Arts".  I did not really catch much of the art part, but I did get a chance to chat with various OccuPals and would-be OccuPals.  Many in our great country would say that Occupy is dead and good riddance, so it gives me great pleasure to show you just how wrong (and stinky) you are!  Because here they are and they are not going anywhere until all their demands are met (a bus to take them to the airport where a plane will be waiting to take them to Slovenia and 500,000USD)!!!

At least I think those were their demands, but I could be mistaking those demands with this other group I sometimes cover....      oh well.... YOU decide!     Video after the jump!

groggy news

Please excuse my unexplained two week absence, but a friend of mine was having a major emergeny and I had to travel to Arkansas to help her out.   Unfortuntly things did not work out so well since she passed away.  The good news, though, is that now I am free to return to the grog (the website that is, my entire existence is nothing but grog).

Baby's First Walk With papa

birthday of the grog

366 (because of leap year?) days ago I posted the first crappy grog post.  My therapist suggested I start a grog to help confront my feelings or something stupid like that.  I ignored him about that suggesting as i did most of what he said to me (he is an asshole), but last spring JB talked me into signing up for a super-fun-happy European excursion, so I did since it sounded like it would be great and stuff.  I wanted to be able to set up something like a blog for me mum so I could to tell her about where I am at and show pictures and stuff.

Later that spring semester I found out that a student can rent a camera from the school library.  I got a B.A (or whatever) in digital editing in my first bout with college and i figured i should try filming stuff around the town i lived in so i do not forget how to edit and all the other basics, plus it would be fun.

So yeah, thank you everyone
parents, the occupals, J.B, Derek, Shannon, Christine, LJ, Love, Baby, Matt Heckamen (of course)  whoever and everyone else (it is late and I have been crying for some time now,    thank you for humoring my stupid hobby.

190 in 366 days is alright for just one lousy schmuck...  ;(

Dorito Taco grog

This week we finally took the plunge (well actually i tried making a dorito taco video about 3 times but they all fell through :(  ) and tested out these revolutionary new tacos.  Personally, I think they are great.  I am not sure if it is the dorito shell that makes it great as much as I feel like they have started putting more taco bell "beef" in the tacos, which is the big difference I notice, though it has been a while since I have had a regular taco hut taco.     Maybe next time we can buy one of each and see what happens.   For this experiment we recruited two grog favorites, Derek, from A Moment with Derek fame, and grog regular Shannon to tell us what they think of these alleged revolutionary tacos.      Jump it!

JB's Corner Episode 4: Leviticus v Matthew

After a much needed vacation, JB returns to his corner to discuss his most recent conversation with grog favorite, Jason, which left both groggers disagreeing on whatever it was they were discussing...   something to do with the bible and how it may or may not promote discrimination against homosexuals.

A Moment With Derek Ep 4

At last!  The lost episode of MwD has been located by one of our many grog interns (seriously guys, having interns is great!).  So you can all stop with the hate mails.....

What is on Dereks mind this week (filmed 2 weeks ago or so actually) well let us find out,  together!   After the jump!

Groggy Art - Melina of IUSB

Every now and then the grog comes across an artist that we feel we have to expose to the world, and this week (or month/year) we have come across one of Michiana's finest up-and-comer artists (painter to be specific) and she was nice enough to give us a sneak peak at a few of her choice pieces.

After the grump....  urrr jump...

Site (grog) News

I apologize for the lack of activity as of late, this was mainly due to the end of semester crunch (berry) and probably other stuff,   but hey,   we are back and hope to become active once again with all your favorites like....   Derek....   and JB.....    oh yeah and LJ is in Europe and we let her take the smaller grog cam so she can document her various misadventures.

But yeah....    we are back!

Ran into Some OccuPals

Despite the first line in the video what you are seeing is not a rally but rather just a few of the Occupals that I happened to run into in front of the Morris Theatre (I think that is the name).  Turns out the rally is in the future, the first week of May...       well these guys will explain it....   after the jump...

Talking grog Baby

Christina Rica

For spring break (yeeeeeaaah!!!!!!) the grogs own Christina Christinson spent a week or so in the exotic Mexican country of Costa Rica.  If you did not know (why would you?)  Costa Rica is a fairly small country, only a little over 100 miles east-west sharing a border with both the Pacific and the Atlantic...  and that is all i got really...  oh yeah, they do not have a military (save for a national police force type thing) which is interesting.  They do seem to enjoy a higher level of stability compared to her more troubled neighbor Nicaragua, but I feel like central America went out of style some time in the 90s and the middle-east is all the rage these days....

But any whos....    Christina was hip enough to record some of her adventures for the grog!!   Thanks Christina!   We are lucky to have you on the team!    The grog team!  Team Grog!   omg i should make t-shirts!

Christine(a) Returns!

A Moment with Derek Pt 1

Grog new-comer, Derek, has impressed the grogosphere so much that we have decided to give him his own segment.
Today our newest grogger talks about his feelings on hate crimes laws or something like that?
Find out after the jump!

JB's Corner Episode 3: Jesus and Becoming Christian

JB and I recorded a video about a month ago when JB was recalling how he was converted to the Christian Faith (I think it was Baptist) and a JB's Corner was born!

The penitent thief hanging on the cross next to Jesus was likely more beast than man. At a time when only the priests were educated, he lived a life of total illiteracy. Imagine how little you would know about everything if you could not read. You wouldn’t know about history, politics, science, other religions, NOTHING. You would have little to no capacity for critical thinking as these faculties take exposure time and effort to develop. Having to steal to survive in a desert outpost on the very margins of the Roman Empire, you can bet he lived a very barbaric life. He likely had no formulation of right and wrong, and likely relied more upon his survival instincts than reason. He met Jesus for the 1st time as he was being executed under extreme mental and physical torture. Why is pain and torture a staple of the world’s intelligence agencies throughout history? Because pain will get it inflictor to say and do things they would never say or do otherwise. Anything to assuage the pain is an option…including “salvation.” It is in this state of utter ignorance and utmost agony where Christianity records its first convert. He acknowledged that Jesus was God, and at that very moment, all time in his life preceding it, he was condemned not only to a brutal death by crucifixion by the decree of man, but also to a perpetual torment in everlasting hell by the decree of the almighty God –a God that loved him so much as to allow him to be born into a world where he would be the lowest of the low. He was the condemned outcast of a suppressed desert cult, illiterate, perpetually hungry, and now slowly dying by way of one of the most excruciating forms of torturous death imaginable.
My conversion is not quite that interesting nor is it that dramatic but I wish to tell it nonetheless." After the jump...

Baby's First Day @ ze Park!

Today, March 14 2012, little baby Augustus met up with his BFF at some park in Mishawaka (Battel i think?) and did baby stuff (sat in stroller , baby swing, & checked out chics because it was 80 degrees and like Augustus always says, higher the temp, the less the cloths chics wear)

My journey (Al) for a good HD camera continues and tomorrow i will email my beloved XR7 back to Bens Electonics (who are/is awesome btw) and he might be able to fix the problem (fireport on cam is dead so i can not transfer to edit without using another camera, a camera that can also handle HD).   Problem is I promised the the mayor of New Carlisle that I would grog the big Maple Syrup festival this weekend....   eh... ill figure it out......   More baby pics after the jump...

Closet Apple

I am really bad at most things and this includes sleep.  If a genie granted me the ability to not be so awful at something, I just might pick sleeping.  Maybe if I could sleep like a normal person my other miseries might become less... well miserable.

For the past few weeks I have been experimenting with different cameras and so far I have run into a lot of crap and that really bums me out.  It is Spring Break even!  Probably a lot of important happenings going on.

So there I was March 10th, pacing around thinking about what to o about my computer / camera situation.  While I thought about my dilemma I began to fiercely clean my studio/lab/study

While filling my closet with clean cloths (a rare occurrence) I decided I would consolidate my closet since it was already looking pretty bad in there.  As I was reaching around the top shelf I felt a round fairly solid object...... and low and behold....

I am pretty sure the apple was there before I moved in.

JB's Corner Episode 1: The Gas Problem

First LJ Post

After pleading with Al for some years or so, he finally agreed to let me audition for the next Grog slot, under the conditions that I must first survive a series of rigorous physical and psychological trials involving a certain dirty hippie named Charlie, and also start a foundation to get money for some girl with cancer or something who didn't have health insurance and looked like walking death (I mean I know you're sick and all, but you don't have to make everyone else uncomfortable  by looking so haggard all the time).  Anyway, I completed my tasks quite enthusiastically and earned the title of Groggy Contributor.  So here I am, living my dream.  I want to be really deep and write about important stuff and change the world by writing about it from my basement, the way those Occupy people are changing the government by sleeping in tents.  I want to like all of the trendy music way before it's cool and I want to wear Gap jeans so that everybody knows how hip and trendy I am but I want to get them at a thrift store so I'm not actually trendy. I don't support corporate America or child labor, but I still want to look like I do.  So my email is and I would be thrilled to hear from anyone who would like to be my friend or enemy. Have a groggy day.

Baby's First Superbowl!

We do not really pay much attention to the football part of the superbowl but omg you guys, the commercials!  We printed out our score cards, and even a little baby score card for baby, to rate the commercials from good to best.

"Do you know how many people died so we can have a superbowl/commercials/freedom/right to vote?!?!"   I said to my tween daughter once for some reason, because seriously you guys, a lot of men died so we can vote, and America has voted for the superbowl/commercials,  and if you do not like it then you can geeeeet out.

Why not?

History Club Presents: Trivia Night!

The controversial History Club of IUSB "kicked" off the new semester with a Pizza/Trivia night.  I really like the idea of a History Club but I feel like we do not do things like this enough, but there is probably a reason for it that I am unaware of, being a junior officer does not afford much access to the dark secrets of the club.

I can not remember even one question from the trivia, but it is not what you think.  Each team/everyone (yeah they had 4 player teams) would get 30 seconds to answer the question presented.  To let everyone know when the 30 seconds was up, I would stop the music, the music that I would start playing once the question was asked.

That was my job for the trivia, to play / stop music.  I was so focused on trying to find something cool to play that I paid no mind to the trivia questions..         and I was talking so much poop about how good I was going to do....    oh well next time...

The Olive Garden invites the grog back!

A few months ago LJ was nice enough to share some of her Olive Garden Fun Bucks with me which we promptly spent on a five-star lunch/dinner.  It was such a great meal that I grogged about it as soon as I got home.   Well it turns out that the local Olive Garden management were so moved by our love of Olive Garden that they invited us back and even gave us a 5$.  I am not sure which of the two occasionas had the better food, but one thing JB and I can agree on is that Olive Garden is GREAT!

Let us share our experience with yall after the jump!

Don't Shoot I'm With God showed children all over America that you can be hardcore and cool while still being a good christian.  I used to follow them around town and record some of their shows when I was in high school and I felt like it was my duty to share this inspirational (christian) music with the worldlll

State of the Union

Last night, our current president gave the annual state of the union, but we at the grog our much less interested in what our alleged president has to say about the current state of our union than we are about normal everyday folk like yall (those reading the grog, whom I consider to be the only REAL Americans out there).  Special thanks to the IUSB Political Science Club for allowing the grog access to their event  :).

So the grog crew attended a viewing of the presidents speech to ask IUSB students what THEY thought the state of the union is, and the responses might just surprise you!    After the jump!

Chicken-Gate Explained

2011 was a huge year for the protesting circuit with its success in the Occupy South Bend and its spin off Occupy Wall Street protests, but 2011 had another note-worthy protest, Chicken-Gate.  In the early part of 2011 the campus of IUSB became the battle-ground between lovers of Chicken-Filet and their fantastic chicken-sandwiches and the IUSB Protesters Union.  For all this time I had very little idea why the P.U was protesting but now Jason explains all in this exclusive groggy interview.         Unedited interview after the jumpy...

Jason and Occupy IUSB

The other day I was able to sit down with IUSB's resident protester / fighter for equality, Jason.  He is the one who began the Occupy IUSB campaign to fight against the oppressive policies of the IUSB administration.  Some folks have criticized Jason's tactics as too violent, while others say it is not violent enough.  Though many have died on both sides, on Thursday January 12th 2012 Occupy IUSB declared victory as the ruthless administrators of IUSB have agreed, after much death, to meet the demands of Jason and his movement.

Here is Jason explaining what Occupy IUSB is and his declaration of victory and a moment of silence for all those who have died in pursuit of justice.  After the jump...

A Groggy View of a OSB - GA

It has been a while since the South Bend Police Department violently evicted the Occupy South Bend folks out of the park (by South Bend Police Department I mean winter of course) and into warmer surroundings.  Last Wednesday I was fortunate enough to be able to witness the grand General Assembly, which they hold weekly at a secret location (Bruno's Pizza in downtown South Bend).  The group discussed various topics ranging from nuclear disarmament to planting community gardens to help feed hungry folk.  I was only able to stay for an hour or so before my wife called and ordered me to perform some task for her.

While the video may be groggy i hope the general feeling of what a GA is like is conveyed.

El Paraiso Taco Time!!!

Located in downtown South Bend at the corner of western and main street, El Paraiso, home of the dollar taco (on Wednesdays and Sundays, though maybe that has changed...)   that tastes like.. a 20 dollar taco or something, seriously, it is great and they have a funny commercial now so i guess the secret is out that El Paraiso has the best tacos in northern Indiana.
